Lt. Governor Francis Reappointed to NLGA’s National Policy Committee
Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis has been reappointed to serve a second term on the Policy Resolutions Committee of the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA). The Policy Resolutions Committee hears testimony on policy issue briefings submitted by NLGA members. These policy issues are reviewed for endorsement by all members of the association. Upon endorsement, the policy statements are then used to promote legislative activity in the states and in Congress.
At the NLGA Annual Meeting held in July, Francis co-sponsored a resolution to ensure the adoption of health information technology systems as a mechanism to improve the delivery of health care. Francis
serves as the Chair of the territory’s Healthcare Reform Implementation Task Force, which has been working to improve healthcare related information systems throughout the territory as part of continuing efforts to implement the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Access to healthcare has been a longstanding concern of Francis, who has hosted free asthma and cervical cancer screenings throughout the territory and worked to raise awareness about these diseases.
At the annual meeting, Francis also co-sponsored a resolution which recognizes the home building industry as critical to the nation’s economic recovery and critical to helping Americans realize the dream of homeownership. He has previously joined lieutenant governors across the United States in offering a resolution titled, “Better Health Care for All”, that seeks to provide every American with access to high quality and affordable health care.
Francis has served on the Policy Resolutions Committee since last year. He will also continue to serve as the East Region Chair of the NLGA’s Executive Committee, a position he has held since 2009.
