StJanCo: Caneel for the People – Reimagining Public Spaces is the third in a series of panel discussions regarding the future of Caneel Bay on the island of St. John. It airs from 2:30 pm until 4 pm. The panelists, Dr. Crystal Fortwangler, Kurt Marsh Jr., as well as Superintendent of National Park Service (NPS) sites in the Virgin Islands, Nigel Fields, will discuss the closure of Caneel Bay, a hotel that was once the largest employer on St. John. WTJX’s second live local program, The American Spiritual Ensemble, begins at 5:00 pm on Saturday. The American Spiritual Ensemble, was founded by Everett McCorvey in 1995 with the mission of keeping the American Negro Spiritual alive, but the group’s music collection ranges from classic spirituals, Broadway numbers, and jazz, highlighting the black experience.

The members of the American Spiritual Ensemble have performed at the Metropolitan Opera, The Kennedy Center, and Carnegie Hall just to name a few.
