Late Friday a St. Thomas man died after being hit by a car at about 8:29 p.m., on the Moravian Highway near VITEMA’s headquarters. The victim was identified by next of kin as 55-year-old Rodney George, The driver of the vehicle remained on scene after the accident, the V.I. Police Department said.


The landfill was closed on Saturday because of a fire reported on Friday, night @ 11:04 p.m. As of 2 p.m. Saturday the fire was out.


WAPA’s having one of its local contractors to temporarily assist the Department of Public Works with either the repair or replacement of faulty or non-existent highway lights along the major thoroughfares on St. Thomas that are part of the federal highway system. Work will focus on the. King Airport intersection to the bottom of Raphune Hill. Executive Director Lawrence J. Kupfer said that WAPA will make the temporary repairs and/or install needed streetlights until such time as the Public Works Department can make permanent repairs or a complete replacement of highway lights, hurricane-damaged poles, and other hardware.


U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) pre-departure operations in the Cyril E. King Airport Terminal and operations at the Edward W. Blyden Marine Terminal on St. Thomas have been temporarily relocated until further notice. The Virgin Islands Port Authority is addressing emergency issues it found during construction projects being conducted at both terminals this week. At the Cyril E. King Airport, passengers will clear at Checkpoint A near Gate 1. Longer wait times are anticipated.
