The Public Services Commission (PSC) approved the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority's request to increase the base rate on January 9, 2020. Also, the PSC voted to censor John D. Clendinen for repeated violations of the commission's policy and will be recommending his removal from the PSC board to the governor.


On Jan. 7 at 9:09 pm., police got word of an attempted robbery at the KFC restaurant in the Sunny Isle Shopping Center. An officer patrolling in the area saw two suspicious males, dressed in black in the vicinity of Estate Strawberry. The officer, aware of the robbery attempt, made contact with the two black males identified himself and directed them to stop. One of the suspects, Akemoi Simmonds, age 18 of Estate Rattan, stopped. The second suspect fired multiple rounds at the officer while running away escaping. Simmonds had an unlicensed firearm on him and was arrested. His bail was set at $25,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights hearing.


St. Croix Educational Complex High School art and drama students are gearing up for the release of their fourth annual calendar, before the end of January. The annual project celebrates Virgin Islanders or long-term residents who have contributed to the cultural fabric of the islands through the arts.
