Attorney General Denise George has filed a civil lawsuit against the estate of Jeffrey Epstein and six associated Virgin Islands entities through which Jeffrey Epstein carried out an expansive scheme of human trafficking and sexual abuse of underage girls in the Virgin Islands. The lawsuit calls on the Epstein estate to forfeit and divest of Virgin Islands holdings, to include real estate and other real property, in favor of the territory government. Epstein, 66, was found dead in a federal jail in Manhattan last August while facing child sex trafficking charges officials ruled his death a suicide by hanging.


Police Commissioner Velinor appointed Lieutenant Mario M. Brooks as an assistant police commissioner. Mr. Brooks has been with the V.I.P.D. for 25 years, working in various sections of the department, He comes with 27 years of military experience where he holds the rank of Major in the Virgin Islands National Guard. His current position is deputy inspector general, and he has served as the commander of the Military Police Detachment. Mr. Velinor said, "After considering external and internal candidates, I found Brooks to be the right person to serve in this position and I am elated that he accepted the call to continued service to our community."
