Yesterday morning the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of an unresponsive female on the roadway in Hospital Ground. Officers were dispatched and found the female in the Estate Thomas residential community. EMS was contacted, and the Emergency Medical Technicians on scene confirmed the victim had no vital signs. The victim was identified by next of kin as 60-year-old Valerie Tyson Clarke.


Police arrested 18-year-old Jaquan George of Annas Retreat and charged him with 3rd Degree Burglary, Grand Larceny, Aiding and Abetting, and Possession of Stolen Property. The manager for Mitchell Auto Sales reported that two vehicles were missing from the lot, and a window of the business was broken. A thorough investigation revealed that George and a minor were the suspects in this matter. The suspects drove the vehicles out of the lot and kept the vehicles in their possession. Bail for George was set at $50,000, which he could not post. He was subsequently remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights hearing.


Police were dispatched to the parking lot at Plaza Extra West in Mount Pleasant, St. Croix, in reference to a pedestrian vehicular accident. According to the police report, a three-year-old boy ran out into the parking lot in front of a moving car. The driver stopped, but the boy’s leg was hurt. The boy was assisted by his mother and was rushed to the Juan F. Luis Hospital by his mother. He was listed in stable condition.


The Virgin Islands Police Department on St. Croix gives a heads-up that a portion of the Melvin Evans Highway, from the Sunny Isle stoplight westbound to the Home Depot stoplight, will be closed, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m for roadwork through this Saturday. When the road is open in the mornings, one or both lanes may be open for traffic access. Motorists are asked to find alternate routes or leave at least 30 minutes earlier to get to your destination on time.
