The Department of Justice arrest of Juan Rosario, 56, on felony charges of 5 counts each- Obtaining money by false pretense, Grand Larceny, and Embezzlement for repairs to hurricane-damaged homes, that he did not complete. Victims said Rosario got close to $92,000. Bail was set at $100,000 and Rosario was ordered to have no contact with the witnesses, report to the probation office weekly, can’t leave the territory, and must reside with a third-party custodian. Department Licensing and Consumer Affairs’ says Rosario is not a licensed contractor within the Virgin Islands.
On Feb. 24 at around 12:38 a.m., a 1st Degree Robbery was reported to police. The male victim reported that he was walking on Hams Bluff Road when a small white vehicle with two armed masked men exited the vehicle and approached him and demanded everything the he had. A struggled ensued between the victim and one of the suspects over his cell phone. The suspect brandished a handgun, pointed it at the victim’s head and discharged one shot that did not strike the victim. The suspects then took the victim’s cell phone and his backpack that contained personal documents, then left the area in their vehicle.
The VIPD is looking for 18-year-old Wayne Burke who is wanted for 1st Degree Attempted Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 1st Degree Reckless Endangerment, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Ammunition. Burke was identified as the suspect who fired upon a police officer and escaped after attempting to rob the KFC restaurant in the Sunny Isle Shopping Center on Jan. 7. Burke is a Black male, 5 feet 9 inches in height, and weighs 180 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. The Strive Senior Center on St. Thomas is seeking committed volunteers to provide computer skills training at the center on weekdays. Time and frequency can be based upon the volunteer’s availability schedule. This is an unpaid position. However, USVI Senior Citizens (60 years and up) are invited to explore the Department of Human Services Senior Volunteer Program, which provides a minimal monthly stipend.
