Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett announcing three grants from FEMA who awarded close to 1.5 million to the VI Department of Education for temporary repairs to Ulla Muller Elementary School. The St. Croix Animal Welfare Center received about 1.3 million for building and site restoration and the VI Department of Public Works will receive close to $2.3 million for State Management Cost. Management Costs are any indirect costs and administrative expenses that are reasonably incurred in administering a grant or sub-grant award.
WAPA and contractor crews are working at night on St. Thomas to repair or replace non-working streetlights and highway lights tonight, through Saturday, February 29th. Crews will work from Fort Mylner through Nadir to Nazareth. During the week of March 2, crews will be working from Nazareth through Smith Bay to the top of Cassi Hill. And during the week of March 9th, the work will go from the top of Cassi Hill to the bottom of Raphune Hill. Drivers are asked to be careful around the crews, pedestrians, and other motorists.
The 340 Misfit Motorcycle Club on St. Croix are welcoming the Celebrity Silhouette Cruise Ship. The cruise ship is bringing a lot of motorcyclists to drive all around St. Croix with a police escort. Althea Gumbs, 340 Misfit Motorcycle Club President provided details.
On Jost Van Dyke, a section of the road is under repair on the eastern part of the island has been undermined by the weather and is not safe for travel at this time. Persons who wish to travel to the other side of the island are urged to use the carpooling system.
