On Feb. 5 10:07 a.m., police were notified of a robbery that occurred at the Glitters Jewelry Store in Havensight. According to store employees, two masked men rushed into the store, both armed with guns. The men jumped over the counter. One man held the employees at gunpoint while the other man grabbed an unknown number of gold chains hanging on the wall behind the counter. The men then exited the store, fleeing in an unknown direction.
Damian Anthony Lang of St. Croix, a Department of Agriculture employee, was arrested Tuesday for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine. Lang was picked up by federal agents while working at the Department of Agriculture in Estate Lower Love, on Agricultural Fair Grounds. According to court documents, Lang is accused of mailing two parcels from the USVI to Spartanburg, South Carolina, on December 7, 2019. The parcels were intercepted and contained approximately 462 grams of a white powdery substance, which field-tested positive for cocaine. Lang was arraigned Tuesday in federal court on St. Croix and detention, preliminary and removal hearings were scheduled for today at 9:00 a.m. According to court documents, Lang is currently on release pending trial in an unrelated federal case for the charge of felon in possession of ammunition.
Waste Management Authority says they removed more than 6,000 gallons of used cooking oil and motor oil illegally dumped at the Concordia residential bin site. Illegal dumping of used cooking oil and motor oil in the Territory is also occurring in the St. Thomas/St. John district as well as on Water Island. This practice is causing environmental damage including clogged and blocked lines. Repairs to sewer lines blocked by grease cost the WMA over half a million dollars a year in line repairs. businesses who illegally dump used cooking oil and motor oil are required to have a permitted and licensed contract hauler to dispose of waste oil. Violators are subject to a fine of not less than $1,000 and/or 180 days imprisonment.
