ST. CROIX, USVI – Following the February 28 shuttering of the Arthur A. Richards K-8 School due to an odor affecting the campus’s air quality that has resulted in some students and staff becoming ill, Arthur A. Richards will begin a double session schedule on the campus of Eulalie R. Rivera K-8 School, effective Monday, March 9.
St. Croix District Insular Superintendent Carlos McGregor made the announcement at meetings held with parents of both schools Monday night at the St. Croix Educational Complex High School auditorium. The schools’ faculty and staff were informed of the changes at meetings held earlier in the day.
Eulalie R. Rivera and Arthur A. Richards K-8 schools will assume the following schedules on March 9:
Eulalie R. Rivera K-8 School
• 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Arthur A. Richards K-8 School
• 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Lunch and school bus service will be provided as usual.
Governor Albert Bryan Jr., and officials from the Virgin Islands Health Department, and VITEMA provided an update on the Coronavirus.
Department of Tourism is warning about and has contacted Facebook's legal department and cybersecurity agencies about the existence of a fake USVI Tourism Facebook Page that continues to spread misinformation. Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte says communication was sent to Facebook's legal department requesting its assistance with the removal of the imposter page, as it violates Facebook's community standards, infringes upon the Department's intellectual property rights, and poses a security and safety concern for the USVI.
ST. THOMAS, USVI – The Virgin Islands Department of Education, in conjunction with the Virgin Islands Police Department will hold a series of workshops with school safety staff on March 4 and 5. Schools will be dismissed early in both districts to accommodate the workshops.
March 4, 2020 - St. Thomas-St. John District
• All public schools in the St. Thomas-St. John District will dismiss at 1:50 p.m.
(St. Croix District schools will be in full session on March 4) March 5, 2020 - St. Croix District Public school early dismissal schedule:
• Sr. high schools and John H. Woodson Jr. High: 1 p.m.
• K-8 schools: 1:15 p.m.
• K-6 schools: 1:30 p.m. (St. Thomas-St. John District schools will be in full session on March 5)
