The West Indian Company (WICO) informed employees that a significant portion of its staff would be laid off in the coming weeks as the management agreement with the Government Employees' Retirement System of the Virgin Islands (GERS) to manage Havensight Mall in St. Thomas ends. WICO tried to reconcile differences with GERS and continue its management of Havensight Mall. Although layoffs are unavoidable, WICO’s Board of Directors will fairly compensate employees facing termination.
Kamifa Lawrence, 22-year-old, was reported missing by family members. Lawrence has not been seen since Feb. 21. Lawrence is about five feet, five inches, and 150 pounds. last seen in the Lindbergh Bay area, wearing a yellow multi-colored t-shirt and gray or black skirt. Lawrence frequents Lindbergh Bay Beach and Brewers Beach.
Alvin Henry, age 41, of St. Thomas was sentenced to federal of 48 months, followed by 3 years of supervised release, 200 hours of community service, a $2,500 fine, and a $200 special assessment. Henry was busted in November of 2016 at the Henry Rohlsen Airport for having cocaine in his carry-on luggage.
In an interview with the VI Consortium, Governor Bryan was asked about McGreggor, Insular Superintendent, calling the Virgin Islands Police to have the American Federation of Teachers representative Rosa Soto-Thomas removed from a staff meeting.
Both Markoe Elementary School and the Eulalie Rivera School will resume regular operations today. Yesterday a faulty water pumps on both campuses caused the schools to close early on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
In the BVI the SAT Examination is Saturday, March 14 at Stoutt High School at the old Clarence Thomas Building. The examination begins at 8:00 a.m and students are asked to be seated by 7:30 a.m. Students must bring your admission ticket, a valid identification card (passport or driver’s license), a calculator and a 2B pencil.
