Governor Albert Bryan said t a bill sponsored by Senator Novelle Francis that sought to limit WAPA's back-billing to 35 days, would not affect residents' current situation. Francis said he would work with his colleagues to override Mr. Bryan's veto. Senate Vice President Myron Jackson also expressed frustration with the governor's veto. “It is unfortunate that at a time when the people of the Virgin Islands are experiencing a pandemic and economic hardship, they will be faced with having to choose between getting their basic needs met for their families or paying their newly adjusted WAPA bill," said Senator Jackson.
Senator Kurt Vialet is strongly recommending that the Executive Branch take immediate action considering Judge Gomez’s ruling about VIGL and Southland Gaming. Horseracing is the largest spectator sport in the Virgin Islands and the recent ruling leaves the sport in limbo.
Dr. Brett Ellis from the Department of Health says good things are happening and equipment is coming in to be able to test more for the coronavirus.
