A person suffering respiratory distress aboard a vessel at sea is one of the territory’s latest COVID positive patients. The person was hospitalized at the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center in critical condition late Thursday evening after the vessel was denied entry into Puerto Rico. Governor Bryan said, the USVI will assist in providing any humanitarian assistance it can during this pandemic.
The fifth and most recent death from COVID19 is a 72-year-old male from St. Croix who died at the Juan F. Luis Hospital. He was the husband of the woman who was reported last week as the fourth death from this disease. Suspicion about his health condition arose when it was confirmed that his wife died of the disease.
Health Commissioner, Justa Encarnacion encourages anyone experiencing symptoms such as cough, fever, and shortness of breath, and have traveled in the last 14 days to self-quarantine. Persons with these symptoms are asked to call 340-712-6299 or 340-776-1519 from 8 am - 10 pm Monday through Sunday.
The VI Port Authority has approved a request from Road Town Fast Ferry to transport cargo from St. Thomas to Tortola. Road Town Fast Ferry will make cargo-only trips between St. Thomas and Tortola on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. There will be no passengers allowed on the vessel. The borders of the BVI remain closed.
