A shooting in Mon Bijou last night left one man dead, about 10:55 p.m. According to the report, a call to 911 about shots fired in the area. The caller also said a male victim was on the ground. Emergency Medical Technicians arrived and pronounced the male victim dead on arrival. The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here.


A sixth person has died of the coronavirus in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The latest victim, who died yesterday, was the son of a husband and wife couple who died of the virus weeks apart. The wife died on Monday, April 27, and the husband, the fifth Covid-19 death, died on Saturday, May 9. The son was on a ventilator at the Juan F. Luis Hospital before passing. In the territory, there have been 1,259 persons tested, 69 positive and 1,128 negative. There are 62 pending cases, 61 persons recovered, and six deaths.


Former Casino Control Commission chairwoman Anne Golden has a new date for her sentencing and there is a trial date for her co-defendant Stephanie Barnes. Golden has been locked up since January in Puerto Rico after pleaded guilty for two charges of theft from a program receiving federal funds and woeful failure to file a tax return. Her sentencing was set for Thursday and she is likely to face between 18 -24 months behind bars. Her attorney asked that her sentencing be held via video conference so that Golden would not risk exposure to the coronavirus. The judge denied that request and delayed sentencing date to June 16.


The Bureau of Corrections is going to take over all the cooking and feeding of the inmates. They have terminated the contract with the current food provider on January 7.
