Governor Bryan said that the recommended 42% cut to the Government Employees Retirement System (GERS) is not acceptable.
An active fire in the scrap metals section at the Anguilla Landfill was discovered at about 2:36 p.m., at which point it was reported to the VI Fire Service. Metals, including junked cars, were being processed for removal when a vehicle, which was also being crushed and processed, caught on fire causing the blaze to quickly spread to the metal section. The scrap metal section of the facility is closed until further notice. There was no word this morning on the status of the fire.
The capacity to perform up to 1,000 coronavirus tests per day may be a matter of weeks away, once the Dept. of Health gains approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which D.O.H. Commissioner Justa Encarnacion said is expected on June 1.
The Melvin Evans Highway, West Airport to William's Delight from 7 am – 3 pm will have a single-lane closure heading westbound. Near the Sunny Isles Intersection to Hess road, today 5 am – 3 pm, workers are laying down stripes from the Sunny Isles Intersection to the entrance of the oil refinery along with Hess. No road closures will be implemented, motorists can expect traffic delays.
