Governor Bryan speaks out about the verbal and physical assault on a health department official on St. Croix that led to two arrests.

A man sitting in his car with his wife, in the parking lot of the Breezes Restaurant, was assaulted by a masked man attempting a robbery. The masked man left the victim with lacerations about his face and head. The 911 Emergency Call Center was called approximately 2:49 p.m. on Sunday and dispatched officers to the restaurant to investigate the robbery.

As of last night, there have been 2907 tested, 84 positive, 2819 negative, and four pending. There are 73 recovered persons and six deaths.

Governor Albert Bryan Jr. said during his weekly COVID-19 update that at this point he is not planning to close the beaches for the long July 4th weekend, but he warned residents to “Mask Up” if they plan to celebrate the holiday at the beach or elsewhere.

“The only thing that is giving me pause to shut down the beaches is that we only have four active cases and the other 50% of cases we found other than food service workers are travelers,” Governor Bryan said. “We would have seen these traveling cases no matter what we did. I am also given some level of comfort knowing that we have a ‘No Mask, No Service’ policy in place.

The government of the British Virgin Islands has extended its night-time ban on motorcycles by three weeks. The extension was ordered the same day Premier Andrew Fahie voiced concern about an increase in accidents on roads across the territory. “We are seeing an increase in scooter accidents and riders are not wearing safety gears and riding safely on the road. Except for a select category of riders when they are traveling to or from work, motorcycles are banned from operating on local roads between 5 pm and 5 am (local time) daily.
