Trash haulers and companies operating the territory’s two landfills may stop hauling trash and stop maintaining the landfills June 8 if the Waste Management does not come up with some of the millions of dollars in past-due payments. A video conference was held between the parties Tuesday James Bo Bo Bates owner of Bates Trucking fills us in on the details.


On June 3 at about 1:21 p.m., police arrested John Allen, age 37 of Lerkenlund, and charged him with Credit Card Fraud, Possession of Stolen Property, and Theft - Obtaining Credit through Fraud. Allen was wanted regarding several larcenies throughout the island of St. Thomas. He was apprehended on Norre Gade.


The Virgin Islands Police Department announced that the Firearms Bureau in both Districts is now open, operating by appointment only. The Firearms Bureau offices will be open Monday – Thursday, with appointments starting at 8:30 a.m. To make an appointment, please call the Firearms Bureau on St. Thomas at (340) 774-2211 and on St. Croix at (340) 778-2211. The issuance of new and renewal applications will also be by appointment.


Senate President Novelle Francis made a plea for the mental health issue in the territory.


Point Udall got TLC on Mother’s Day this year, local nurse Kathleen Arnold Lewis mobilized a beautification initiative. With volunteers including her daughter, son, and family friends – the crew donated their time and materials to tackle projects such as painting, pruning bushes, picking up trash and planting trees, to name a few. Several friends donated desert roses and cactus plants, soil, planters, tools, as well as the United States and Virgin Islands flags for the flagpole.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) erected the Millennium Monument in 2000, to commemorate the beginning of a new millennium for the United States. The public monument consists of a giant sundial as Point Udall is the first place the sun rises on US soil.
