The entire Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority family is in shock and mourning following the shooting deaths of two contractual workers while they were removing solid waste from a bin site in the Tutu area on St. Thomas. “This is a horrific incident,” said Ann Hanley, VIWMA Interim Executive Director. “The young men were operating heavy equipment trying to clean the area of residential solid waste. We are in shock and disbelief that these two hard-working young men are gone.” The VIWMA staff and contractors send their deepest condolences and prayers to the immediate family of the young men.

Governor Albert Bryan said effective immediately all bars in the territory are ordered closed, including bars in restaurants, and restaurants can continue operating. Restaurants can sell beverages only to seated guests. Governor Albert Bryan also is shutting down all beaches at 4:00 p.m. on the weekends and during holidays until further notice. All retail facilities in the U.S. Virgin Islands are barred from selling alcohol after 11:00 p.m.
