Coronavirus infections continue to rise in the U.S. Virgin Islands, with the V.I. Department of Health (D.O.H) reporting 26 new cases Tuesday night — 16 on St. Croix, 8 on St. Thomas and 2 in St. John. St. Thomas has 117 test results pending, followed by St. Croix with 81, and St. John with 1 pending case for a total of 199 territory-wide. Total confirmed cases stood at 243 as of Tuesday night, with 125 active cases — 95 on St. Croix, 25 on St. Thomas, and 5 in St. John. So far 112 individuals have recovered, D.O.H. said. Territory-wide 5,079 tests have been performed, with 4,637 returning negative.
During Tuesday’s budget hearing, senators were told the current concessions at Magens Bay Park, which offers standard American cuisine and was previously void of Caribbean cuisine, have been leased by a single family for more than 30 years.
Ron de Lugo, the longest-serving Delegate to Congress from the Virgin Islands, has died yesterday at the age of 89. Ron De Lugo played a key role in bringing about sweeping changes in the middle of the 20th Century and accelerated the political advancement and economic development of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Ron De Lugo served 10 terms as Delegate in the House of Representatives, from 1973 to 1979 and from 1981 to 1995. His Congressional service interrupted by an unsuccessful run for VI Governor in 1979. Ron De Lugo retired from Congress in 1995.
