On August 21, at roughly 8:06 p.m., police arrested Kahlid Blyden, age 26 of Caret Bay, on possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute. Officers discovered a backpack with marijuana and a bag that contained an assault rifle. Blyden attempted to flee the area on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers and detained. Bail for Blyden was set at $150,000. Unable to post bail, he was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights hearing.


On St. Thomas, police arrested two persons for murder. Toby Derima provides details.


A 6th person has died from the novel coronavirus in St. Thomas, bringing the territory's total to 11. Between Friday and Saturday, the Department of Health (D.O.H) reported 48 new cases of the deadly disease, 28 Friday and 20 Saturday. St. Thomas experienced 22 community spread infections. The island saw 30 confirmed cases during the two days as well. Close contact cases, which included infections that D.O.H. had listed as under investigation prior to Friday, totaled 23.

On St. Croix, which had a total of 15 of the 48 cases reported between Friday and Saturday, saw seven community spread cases and nine close contact.

St. John accounted for only 3 cases between Friday and Saturday.

D.O.H. said it was tracking 282 active infections as of Saturday, and listed 687 as recovered — up from 655 for a total of 32 recoveries from Friday to Saturday and 103 recoveries from Tuesday. As of Saturday, D.O.H. was tracking 60 active cases on St. Croix, nine on St. John and 213 in St. Thomas.
