During his weekly press briefing on Monday, Governor Albert Bryan Jr. explained why he extended the “Stay-at-Home” order until September 8. “While we are seeing a welcomed drop in the positivity rate, the number of infections attributed to community spread and the number of hospitalizations is not where we would like to see them,” Governor Bryan said. “Suffice to say, we believe the Stay-at-Home order has been effective in reducing the spread of the virus, and we look forward to relaxing those restrictions next week if these trends continue.”


After further investigating the cause of death and ensuring the next of kin's notification, the Department of Health confirms the territory's 15 death related to COVID-19. The deceased is a 49-year-old male from St. Thomas. You should continue to follow these precautionary measures: stay at home, practice social distancing, wear a mask when in the company of others outside of those in your household, clean frequently used areas thoroughly, and wash your hands often with soap and warm water.

The crew of a U.S. Coast Guard Special Purpose Craft- rescued a kayaker in distress west of Perseverance Bay in St. Thomas, Sunday evening. The U.S. Coast Guard in San Juan received a call from a St. Thomas 911 emergency service operator at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, reporting a call from the kayaker who relayed he had suffered a pulled shoulder and could not make it back to shore. Law Enforcement crew responded and searched the area, spotting the kayaker, stranded on Perseverance Bay's rocky shore. The boat crew utilized a rescue line to help the kayaker to the boat and. The kayaker was transported to the pier at the University of the Virgin Islands, where he was received by awaiting emergency medical service personnel.
