The V.I. Department of Health on Thursday night announced that the coronavirus had taken the life of another Virgin Islander. The deceased is a 59-year old male on St. John. The latest death came three days after the 15th fatality of a 49-year-old man on St. Thomas. The deaths come as D.O.H. has been reporting a decline in positive cases over the past few days.

Beginning this morning, and continuing through Monday afternoon, the fuel terminal, which provides liquified propane and gasoline to WAPA’s Estate Richmond Power Plant, will undergo a scheduled preventative maintenance regimen. During this period, the propane-fired Aggreko units will not be available. A third diesel generator, Unit 20, is currently on maintenance and is not available. WAPA will work to maintain an uninterrupted electrical service to all customers. Barring any unexpected equipment failure, any service interruptions that occur due to generation capacity will be intermittent and short-lived. The Authority will provide public updates on any service interruptions.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a weather system that is projected to see further development and whose path should be monitored by interests in the Leeward Islands, including the U.S. Virgin Islands. A tropical wave located off the coast of West Africa is merging with another disturbance located a hundred miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands, resulting in an extensive area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. "Development of this system is likely to be slow during the next couple of days while it moves west-northwestward at about 15 mph. And a tropical depression is more likely to form early next week over the central tropical Atlantic where environmental conditions are forecast to be more favorable for development," N.H.C. said.
